This is the free camp 4 Klm. north of Longreach, as you can see there are a lot of vans doing the same as us. Talking to some of the others here, they said 2 days before there were at least 120 vans here. Both caravan parks in town were full. The Outback Hall of Fame apparently bring them all here.
Finally back on line, I can now catch up a little. On Thursday 5 July we left the overnight camp just out of Mitchell, noting it as a place to stay if we venture this way again. Instead of cutting across the Landsborough Hwy.to Augathella, which we had previously done on our way to Darwin back in 1980.We continuted onto Charleville then onto the Matilda Hwy. joining back up with the Landsborough Hwy. just south of Augathella. Because of the detour to Charleville we decided to stay in a small caravan park at Tambo, some 115 Klm further on from Augathella. The following day we were off to Longreach. Passing through Blackall, and Barcaldine we arrived in Longreach just after lunch and headed a further 4 Klm north before finding the free camp we were told was a good place to stay. We parked the van, detached the car, making sure the van was secure we heading back into town to have a look around.
