After spending time with my mum and getting to see most of our family, we departed Taree to continue our trip north on 20 June. After some advice we decided to go back to Nabiac and take the Buckets Way to Gloucester then the Thunderbolt Way to cross the mountains and onto Armidale. The poor car got down to 28klm/ hour after climbing one peak of 3.5 klm. long towing our van, the temp.gauge going up slightly. The car done a great job considering it is towing such a heavy van (2.8 ton ). We didn't quite make it to Armidale on the day, did not factor in the long haul over the Great Divide, so we pulled over to spend the night at a roadside stop about 50klm short of our destination. Up and on the road the following morning and continuted on our way not knowing where we would end up at the end of the day, just pointing the car in a northerly direction to get away from these cold mornings.
After refueling at Armidale we drove onto Glen Innis, stopped for lunch and had a look around, we took notice of how proud the locals are of their outback country towns, everything so neat and tidy.
Heading upwards and onwards we turned west towards Moree and decided to stop at a place just east of Warialda called Cranky Rock. After passing through Inverell and Delungra we finally arrive at the turn off into Cranky Rock, its about a 3 klm drive in over a corrigated dirt road. When we arrive, there was only a couple of other campers, so we vertually had the place to ourselves. What a great little spot to spend a couple of days, It had some good walking trails, birds and animals of many varieties.
